Book contains 11 chapters: 6 deal with the Polish transformation, while remaining 5 with the transformation in Southern Mediterranean Region. The Authors are scientists from: Algeria, Greece, Poland, Turkey and the USA. The experiences of Poland and Mediterranean economies are compared and summed up in the last part which shows the common elements as well as differences in applied strategies of change.
The goal of the publication was to unveil the advantages and the weak points of the applied strategies helping countries – if they desire to join the main stream of the economy – to pick up the best scenarios, making their way most effective. Best choice strategy of transformation is a strategy which is accompanied by relatively low social costs, lasts not too long and brings quick and noticeable changes in the standards of leaving of citizens. Moreover, the applied changes should result in making the economy more immune to external shocks by increasing its competitiveness, flexibility and improving its ability to react to external signals.
